With another ppv headed our way, this time for the Smack down live brand, Backlash on May 21st, I have returned to review, tare a part, analyze, all or none of the above for the blue brand, Smackdown Live.

If you didn’t read it. I wrote about payback and the stories coming out of payback and made predictions of where I thought the stories were headed. This week, I’m going to focus on the blue brand as I noted above particularly their PPV, Backlash.

The US Championship

With Backlash over a week away, it’s safe to assume the entire card has yet to be finalized but based on the stories being told currently, let’s predict the card.

On May 2nd, the main event saw Chris Jericho defend the US title against the former champion Kevin Owens where Kevin Owens won the US championship back after delivering a popup powerbomb. . Since us smarks know that Jericho is leaving to leave TV to work with his band, he needed to be written off tv. Kevin Owens delivered a beat down after the match which left Jericho being attended to by the paramedics.

Keep in mind that AJ Styles is the current number 1 contender for the US championship, he now will face Kevin Owens at backlash. I will admit, I never watched ROH, never was a T&A fan, so I never watched them in other promotions, but this match should be outstanding. I’m calling for AJ Styles to win the title here, especially after reading this Sky Sports interview with AJ Styles. After the loss, Kevin Owens will be positioned to become the next challenger for Orton’s heavy weight title.

The Women’s division

The queen, Charlotte since joining SDLive has had issues with the welcoming committee Natalya, Carmella (with James Ellsworth) and Tamina. On the May 2nd episode of SDLive, we saw a tag match with Nayomi and Charlotte vs the welcoming committee in the form of Natalya and Carmella, but before the match Charlotte was beaten down which left Naomi without a partner. Earlier in the show, the welcoming committee had a segment with Becky Lynch where they attempted to recruit Becky, but Becky stated she would think about it.

The match was contested as a handicap match until Charlotte showed up mid-way through the match selling the beating to help her partner. The heels won the match with a roll up at the end on Naomi by Carmella with a hand full of tights.

After the match, the heels beat down Naomi and Charlotte, and out came Becky Lynch. Becky lynch made it look as if she was joining the heels by shaking hands with them, but ended up attacking them, until the numbers game caught up. It concluded with the heels standing tall and the faces down.

I will admit that even though I knew the direction the E was headed, I was hoping for a heel turn by Becky Lynch, now that is how you would shake things up Vince! At Backlash It’s possible to see the welcoming committee vs the team of Naomi, Charlotte and Becky Lynch. The goal here is to turn Charlotte face which didn’t take long but I still see Charlotte being a tweener until after the PPV. Remember the history between Becky and Charlotte, so I don’t think they will be buddy buddy right away. There will be trust issues leading up to the six woman tag and Naomi will be the peace maker. I predict the welcoming committee will take the victory.

The WWE Championship

Jinder Mahal is the current number 1 contender which put the IWC in an uproar as they believe he is not worthy but nothing wrong with a reboot is there? Earlier, I mentioned Kevin Owens will lose his title and be next in line for the title, so Randy will retain. The story however told here is that Jinder Mahal cost Randy the match at the payback PPV and stole his title and Randy will need to worry about Jinder Mahal’s minions, and will Randy be able to overcome and get his title back that was stolen. Randy has not been on TV since the house of horrors match, but we still have two episodes of SDLive to come.

Final thoughts

Those are the main stories coming out of SDLive but we still have the issue between Dolph Ziggler and Shinsuke Nakamura which that match should be made official this week on SDLive, Breezango vs the USo’s which they will retain as the money is on a program with the New Day, and finally Baron Corbin vs. Sami Zayn as well.

It looks like a good card, but nothing to get upset about if you miss the PPV. I will admit my favorite story line on that show is the women’s story line, as over on Raw Sasha is set to turn heel and Charlotte will be the face on SDLive.

If you have any thoughts concerning the story lines concerning SDLive, please do leave your feedback in the comment section below. Thank you for reading!
